Lavender Fest Winners Announced
August 17, 2011 - RED CREEK - Sue Chmieleski of Ol’Factory Soaps & Scents recently announced the winners of the 2nd annual Lavender Run and a coloring contest featuring their new mascot “Spike”  held in conjunction with the 4th annual Lavender Fest.
The 2nd Annual Lavender Fun Run /Walk took place July 10 with 58 participants.  Proceeds from the run will benefit a 2012 graduating Red Creek student who will be going into the field of agriculture, environmental studies, conservation or a similar program.  The Red Creek Fire Department again offered their services to help patrol the event which took place throughout the village. Others cheered on the runners and volunteers helped with registration and handed out water. The proceeds from last year’s run ($500) were awarded to Trevor Johnson, a 2011 Red Creek graduate who will be attending Paul Smith College this fall.
A coloring contest featuring our new mascot “Spike” was also held at the Cuyler Elementary School to help promote the run this year.  Winners of the contest received an art kit and a goody bag from Olfactory Soaps & Scents. The winners were Amber Paige of Martville and Katie Smith of Red Creek.
Sponsors and donations for the event were received from: Vic’s, Bill and Nancy Kirsch, Robin Houghtaling, Ontario Orchards, Ol’Factory Soaps & Scents, 7-M Construction, Inc., and A& D Market.
T-shirts, the coloring contest, and mascot design were all created  by Nicole Chmieleski.  Nicole will be attending FLCC in the fall to study Fine Arts. The run raised over $500. again this year. Thank you to all the participants.
