Camper Fire in Fair Haven

FAIR HAVEN - Fair Haven and Red Creek Fire Departments were called to the scene of a camper fire at Shady Shores Campground on West Bay Road early Monday evening. Campground owner Christine Lee said she was amazed at how quickly the fire spread despite the efforts of neighboring campers who attempted to quell the fire with garden hoses and fire extinguishers while waiting for the fire department to arrive. The camper was home to one of the seasonal residents who stay at the campground from spring through early autumn. Red Cross was called to assist the victim even as neighbors gathered to offer any assistance they were able.
Cayuga County Fire Investigator Scott Bloss said the fire started after a burner was inadvertently left on and unattended.
